Android tablets have been mostly a miss for most users, at least in the U.S. The iPad has been dominating the tablet scene, but there is a space for quality budget tablets and the Lenovo Tab Plus (2024) is probably the best budget Android tablet you can get. Samsung makes an excellent premium Android tablet, but the budget category doesn’t belong to them. The Lenovo Tab Plus starts at $200, and you can even get it cheaper with sales, and it’s better than the price tag implies. Estimated reading time: 9 minutes I have almost given up on Android tablets, but the Lenovo Tab Plus does give me hope. The iPad remains king, but it’s also expensive. Let’s get into the full review of the Lenovo Tab Plus, 2024 version. The Quick Take I’m not a huge fan of Android tablets, I’ve made that known for years. But there are a handful of tablets that are pretty decent. I was not expecting the Lenovo Tab Plus to be one of them. I think what really made this tablet stand out are the speakers. The sound on this tablet makes it an excellent content consumption device, so watching movies on it is very enjoyable. Here’s what I liked and didn’t like. What I liked Solid build quality for a budget tablet Materials used are far above a budget tablet, shocking The display is bright and colorful The speakers are probably the best speakers on any budget tablet, almost iPad level Great battery life The built-in stand is spectacular What I didn’t like The cameras are just OK, but really, tablet photos are just weird Performance is fine, but expect heavy gaming will lag I would recommend this tablet for its sound quality and excellence for movie watching. Perfect for kids and people who just want to watch content. Specifications The Lenovo Tab Plus has the following features and specifications: Processor: MediaTek® Helio G99 (8C, 2x A76 @2.20GHz + 6x A55 @2.00GHz) Operating System Operating System: Android 14 Upgradable until Android 16 Security patches until January 2028 Memory: 8 GB Storage: Up to 256GB integrated storage Supports up to 1TB expandable storage Battery: 8600mAh 45W fast charging Audio: 8x JBL speakers tuned with Dolby Atmos Camera: Front: 8MP, fixed focus Rear: 8MP, autofocus Connectivity: Ports/Slots: USB-C 2.0 (charging + audio) Headphone/mic combo MicroSD slot Wireless Wi-Fi 5 802.11AC (1 x 1) Bluetooth® 5.2 Display: 11.5′′ 2K (2000 X 1200) TFT LCD, 400 nits, 90Hz refresh rate, touchscreen, TUV certified Dimensions (H x W x D): 174.25mm x 268.3mm x 7.77mm, with speaker bump 13.58mm / 6.86′′ x 10.56′′ x 0.31′′ Weight: Starting at .65kg / 1.43lbs Pen: Lenovo Tab Pen Plus (optional) Color: Luna Grey Security: Security patches until January 2028 Preloaded Software: Entertainment Space Google TV Lenovo Freestyle Lenovo Vantage Music MyScript Calculator 2 Nebo Standby Mode YouTube WPS Office What’s In The Box Lenovo Tab Plus USB-C 2.0 Charging Cable 45W Charging Adapter MicroSD Tray Pin Quick Start Guide Safety & Warranty Guide Design Holy cow! The Lenovo Tab Plus design is truly impressive for its sub two hundred dollar price point. You get yourself a full aluminum build with really high-end materials being used. I was expecting a plastic tablet, and that is not what you get here. The front is pretty plain, just the display with a hole punch camera. The bottom is equally uneventful. The top edge houses the volume rocker, SD Card tray, and mics. The right edge houses the USB-C charging port, one set of the JBL speakers, and some venting. The left edge houses the AUX port, the other set of JBL speakers, and the power button. Both the left, and right edges have some really nice accenting around the speakers that give the design a premium look. The back houses the camera and an excellent kickstand that works really well and is sturdy and versatile. So far, very impressed with this design and build. The Lenovo Tab Plus has a solid build, but it’s not too heavy at less than a pound a half. That weight goes up slightly if you use the included cover. The cover is just okay, it does a good job for protection, but I didn’t like the look of it. But fine for keeping the tablet protected. Overall, the design is actually very nice for a budget tablet. I was shocked at how nice the materials were and how good-looking the Lenovo Tab Plus is overall. Display A brief reminder about the Lenovo Tab Plus, this is a budget tablet, people. Not all aspects of this thing are going to compete with tablets in a much higher price category. That said, the display housed in this chassis is an 11.5′′ 2K (2000 X 1200) TFT LCD, 400 nits, 90Hz refresh rate, touchscreen, TUV certified display. It’s a good resolution with a decent refresh rate. Brightness is also good, but I will say there is some glare and off axis viewing can sometimes be an issue. Not a dealbreaker because the price point supports this. Colors are pretty neutral, this is not an AMOLED display so no over saturation and colors are less punchy. Blacks are fine, if you’re paying attention, you can see they are not as deep as an AMOLED, but again, the price point and display tech support the price. The Whites are clean though and the text is crisp. The 90Hz refresh rate gives you smooth scrolling and a pleasant use with light gaming. Overall, this is an excellent display for a budget tablet. It’s not as punchy as an AMOLED, but it’s really a great display for what you pay. Android Software The Lenovo Tab Plus comes with Android 14, but Lenovo claims they will give it updates to Android 16. So that is an excellent thing. This means you spend, not a lot of money, on a tablet that will have a few years of OS updates. There is some bloatware installed on this tablet, which sucks, but you can uninstall it. I know companies pay for having their apps installed on these types of tablets, and it helps reduce costs. But it is still annoying. Things like TikTok, Block Blast, Block Puzzle Adventure, Booking dot com, and other apps are all preinstalled. Normally, I would be very upset by this, but given the price of this tablet, it’s tolerable. And you can delete these apps. Overall, the software is great on the OS side. The bloatware is annoying. Performance and Camera Don’t expect massive gaming performance from the Lenovo Tab Plus. This is not a gaming tablet. But you can play some games on it. I think even heavy games are doable for a short time, but serious gamers should look elsewhere. For everyday performance, like web browsing, email, social media, and watching movies, it works very well. The MediaTek® Helio G99 paired with 8GB of RAM is enough for most normal users and should hold up well. As for the cameras. I roped them in with performance because they are just okay. Not anything special, but I don’t think many people take serious photos with tablets. The front facing camera works fine for video calls and whatnot. The rear camera is just okay. But again, the price here meets the hardware. Speakers The speakers are where the Lenovo Tab Plus shines. These are impressive and excellent speakers that are tuned by JBL. Usually, speakers on tablets are pretty bad. But the Lenovo Tab Plus gives you EIGHT speakers which provide EXCELLENT sound. I am serious when I say that these are even better than some higher end Android tablet speakers. They are pretty damn close to the iPad’s speakers, and that is saying a lot. The bottom end is REALLY good on them, and watching movies is one of the most enjoyable activities to do on this tablet. Lenovo really knocked it out of the park on these speakers. They, alone, are worth the price of this tablet. Battery Life The 8,600mAh battery is massive, and you get a 45W fast charger in the box. This tablet can last for days, depending on what you’re doing. I didn’t stress test it, but it lasted me for three or four days with light use and YouTube watching. This is an excellent battery. Price/Value There’s not much more to say about the Lenovo Tab Plus. Is it perfect? Nope. It is not perfect. But its price point is forgiving. I can tolerate many of its downfalls because its good points are greater. I would recommend this tablet for anyone just wanting a content consumption device that has fantastic sound. If the Patriots lose their final two games and the Giants win just once in the final two weeks, New England will likely have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Patriots hold the No. 2 overall pick ahead of their Week 17 matchup against the Chargers, moving up from No. 3 last week following their loss to the Bills and the Raiders’ win over the Jaguars. New England could wind up being in position to hold the No. 1 pick entering Week 18 if it loses to Los Angeles on Saturday and New York beats Indianapolis on Sunday. The Patriots are 4.5-point underdogs in their Week 17 matchup, but the Giants are 7.5-point underdogs at home against the Colts, seemingly making it unlikely that New England would jump up to hold the No. 1 pick following Week 17. If the Giants can pull off the upset, though, and the Patriots also lose on Saturday, they wouldn’t be guaranteed to hold the No. 1 overall pick entering the final week of the season. The three-win Jaguars aren’t too far behind them in the strength of schedule tiebreaker. New England currently has the edge by .016 points over Jacksonville (.461 to .477). The Patriots’ edge over the Jaguars in the strength of schedule tiebreaker can improve if the Broncos beat the Bengals, the Raiders beat the Saints, the Eagles beat the Cowboys, the Browns beat the Dolphins, and the Lions beat the 49ers. A Colts win over the Giants would also help improve the Patriots’ gap over the Jaguars in the strength of schedule tiebreaker, but would obviously run counterintuitive to their hopes of getting the No. 1 pick. However, the Patriots might not need to sweat out the tiebreaker scenario with the Jaguars after Week 17. Jacksonville hosts one of five three-win teams on Sunday, sitting as a one-point underdog against Tennessee. The Jaguars defeated the Titans in Week 14. Beyond the Jaguars, the Patriots have a clear edge over the other three-win teams in the strength of schedule tiebreaker. The other three teams are at least .047 points behind the Patriots in that tiebreaker, which is essentially an insurmountable difference to make up in the final two weeks of the season. New England could potentially seal a top-five pick in the 2025 NFL Draft in Week 17 as well. A Patriots loss along with wins by the Browns and Raiders would make it difficult for New England to fall out of the top five as it also has a clear edge in the strength of schedule tiebreaker over the four-win teams. At the very least, a loss by the Patriots on Saturday would likely seal a top-six selection for New England given the aforementioned tiebreaker. The Patriots have already secured a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, regardless of what happens over the final two weeks. Entering Week 17, ESPN’s FPI still projects the Patriots to hold the No. 2 overall pick. It projects the Giants to land the No. 1 pick, giving them a 55.2 percent chance to do so to the Patriots’ 22.9 percent odds. While the Patriots have two games against playoff-bound teams, there is a possibility that the Bills have nothing to play for in Week 18. If the Bills beat the Jets on Sunday, they’ll clinch the No. 2 seed in the AFC, creating a more likely scenario for them to rest important players in their regular-season finale. The Giants might sit in a similar spot with their Week 18 foe. There’s a possible scenario where the Eagles, who the Giants play in Week 18, clinch the No. 2 seed in the NFC after Week 17. If so, they might be in a spot where they feel less inclined to play their key players in Week 18. In the event the Patriots pull off an upset win on Saturday, they won’t drop any further than No. 6 in the draft order. New England has a 92.1 percent chance of getting a top-five pick, per ESPN’s FPI. Sign up for Patriots updates🏈 Get breaking news and analysis delivered to your inbox during football season. Market analysts attribute the morning volatility to a combination of factors, including profit-taking by investors who had bought stocks at lower levels, concerns about the ongoing regulatory crackdown on certain sectors, and uncertainties surrounding the global economic recovery. The recent sell-off in technology stocks and regulatory measures targeting sectors such as education and property have also contributed to the cautious sentiment among investors.

Eviction rates at New York City Housing Authority ( NYCHA ) properties under the Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) program decreased slightly in Queens in 2024, bucking a citywide trend that saw eviction rates spike significantly elsewhere in New York. A recent audit by NYC Comptroller Brad Lander found that eviction rates at PACT properties tripled in 2024 and resemble citywide eviction rates in private properties. Get the Full Story The PACT program, designed to address decades of underfunding and disrepair in public housing, transfers some management responsibilities to private and non-profit partners to secure funding for critical renovations, aiming to address an estimated $80 billion shortfall in NYCHA’s capital needs. However, the Comptroller’s recent audit found that eviction filings and executions at PACT properties occurred at a faster pace than at other NYCHA developments throughout the city and now resemble citywide eviction rates in private rental units. Evictions in PACT properties rose from 29 in 2023 to 91 in 2024—a staggering increase of over 300%. This brought the eviction rate at PACT properties to 0.57%, up from 0.18% last year, nearly matching the 0.60% rate in private rental units. In contrast, eviction rates at standard NYCHA properties increased from 0.01% to 0.12% during the same period, rising from 15 to 180 evictions. In Queens, however, the eviction rate decreased slightly in 2024 compared to 2023. NYCHA’s Ocean Bay Apartments development in the Rockaways, the only Queens-based NYCHA development to convert to PACT, saw evictions drop from 10 to eight in 2024, a drop of 20%. Eviction rates spiked in all other boroughs containing PACT developments, jumping from seven evictions to 55 in Brooklyn, from 4 to 12 in Manhattan and from eight to 16 in the Bronx. A total of 87 NYCHA developments have converted to PACT, with none located in Staten Island. However, eviction filings at Ocean Bay Apartments, which consists of 28 residential buildings, have been rapidly increasing in recent years, according to the Comptroller’s audit. The audit highlighted that there were 33 filings in 2021, rising to 66 in 2022 and rising again to 153 in 2023, a staggering 363% rise across the three-year period. The Comptroller’s report included no data for eviction filings in 2024. Elsewhere in the city, filings rose at an even greater pace, jumping from 57 to 867 in Brooklyn across the same period as well as jumping from four to 181 in Manhattan and from 38 to 313 in the Bronx. The 153 eviction filings at Ocean Bay Apartments represented roughly 10% of the 1,514 eviction filings registered in PACT properties across the city in 2024. The audit, which was released on Dec. 18, also criticized NYCHA for failing to ensure that PACT property managers adhered to pre-eviction outreach protocols and tenant protections. Auditors found that managers did not consistently make multiple attempts to contact tenants at risk of eviction, inform them of potential financial assistance, or use on-site social service providers to engage with residents. Additionally, managers often failed to establish repayment agreements or report all eviction-related activities, hindering NYCHA’s ability to oversee compliance. Lander said that NYCHA must do more to ensure that PACT operators follow standard procedures and provide adequate support to tenants. However, the audit acknowledged some positive steps taken by NYCHA, such as increasing resident involvement in the PACT process. NYCHA representatives now meet with tenants to explain the program and discuss community needs before renovations begin. In response, a NYCHA spokesperson defended the program, highlighting its success in investing $7 billion to redevelop and renovate public housing units since its inception. “This unprecedented investment demonstrates our commitment to improving living conditions for NYCHA residents,” the spokesperson said. The spokesperson added that the Comptroller’s audit does not take NYCHA’s financial and operational challenges into account. The audit only provides a “superficial assessment” of the program while making no substantive recommendations. They also described PACT as “one of the most successful” long-term strategies for preserving crucial affordable housing stock. The fact remains that there have been very few evictions under PACT, and the program upholds resident rights and protections and provides households with ongoing social services and financial assistance to resolve existing rental arrears. NYCHA and its PACT program undoubtedly prioritize keeping New Yorkers housed, and any suggestion otherwise is misguided and false. NYCHA officials also told QNS that the integrity of NYCHA buildings will continue to decline without the assistance of the PACT program. Officials noted that 24,000 homes have been converted to the program to date, with repairs made to over 11,000 homes. NYCHA’s stated goal is to convert 62,000 units to PACT by 2028. Officials also contended that they made efforts throughout the audit process to provide the Comptroller’s team with additional information but said the feedback was not reflected in the final document, stating that the authority is “concerned” by the lack of context provided about resident rights and protections provided by the PACT programs. They noted that all PACT sites are protected by both federal and local protections under the program.Mohamed Salah Named PFA Fans' Player of the Month for November with 3 Goals and 1 Assist in 3 Matches
