He told Good Morning America: "It's been a while since I've done anything. I just have to get off my backside "I unfortunately lost my eyesight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France. "It's been four months now since I haven't been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest. "There's hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but I'm kind of stuck in the moment, because I can do something like this, but going into the studio and recording, I don't know. Because I can't see a lyric for start." The 77-year-old star - who has sons Zachary, 13, and 11-year-old Elijah with husband David Furnish - admitted he has been "floored" by the situation. He said: "We're taking initiative to try and get it better. But at the moment, that's really what I'm concentrating on. It's never fortunate for anything like this to happen. "It kinda floored me, and I can't see anything. I can't read anything, I can't watch anything." Despite his health woes, the hitmaker - who is the subject of an upcoming Disney+ documentary, Elton John: Never Too Late - still feels "lucky". He said: "I'm so lucky. I'm the luckiest man in the world. "I'm so proud of the documentary, I'm proud of my sons, I'm proud of my attitude toward myself and what's going on. I'm just very lucky and very grateful. "I am an iron man, because I've been through so much and come out the other side." Sir Elton revealed in September he had been left with "limited vision" in one eye due to the infection. In a lengthy post on Instagram, he shared: "Over the summer, I've been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it's an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye. "I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks. I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far." Chandigarh: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against eight people, including four officials, three contractors, and their associates, for alleged manipulation in awarding a tender for outsourcing manpower by Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) 16 years ago. The FIR was filed on the recommendation of a DSP-level officer posted in the Gurugram bureau, who conducted a preliminary investigation into the allegations against former power minister Randeep Singh Surjewala . However, Surjewala’s name was referred for the probe only and is neither in list of accused nor in any observation made by the officer in his report while recommending the registration of case under sections 13 (1 and 2) and 13 D of Prevention of Corruption Act and section 12 0B of IPC. Other accused named in the case include Sumer Singh Yadav, now retired superintending engineer, operations circle, DHBVN Gurugram, two former DGMs, V K Aggarwal and Daljit Singh, and Ashok Mehta, former accountant, DHBVN. The accused contractors are Ajay Singh Sandhu and Ishwar Singh Nain, the owner and partners of Sandhu Security Services, and unidentified persons. The cause of action dates back to April 2021 when, acting on a complaint moved by Sandhu, the ACB began the probe, with one of the seven points of the complaint linked to DHBVN, Gurugram. Acting on the report of then-investigation officer, the bureau tasked the DSP-level officer in Gurugram to head the probe. Sandhu is also one of the accused in the case. The issue relates to outsourcing work for the contractual employment of 156 assistant linemen and 12 shift attendants to be attached to DHBVN’s operation circle in Gurugram. For this purpose, the DHBVN called for bids by floating the tender for hiring the manpower in 2009. The tender was awarded to Sandhu Security Services allegedly in violation of terms in the contract. Prediction: 2 Stocks That'll Be Worth More Than Coca-Cola or Disney 10 Years From NowALBANY, N.Y. — As loud as the cheers were last weekend when Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) head coach Bob Burns told his team they’d be heading to the New York State Thruway’s Exit 34a, to Syracuse, that pop was dwarfed by Thursday’s, end-of-practice announcement: “This will be your last conditioning drill of the season,” Burns exclaimed to his team, inside the Karen and Frank Willey ‘71 Dome, in Albany. On Saturday, CBA plays in a different dome, for the final game of the 2024 season with a chance at the program’s first New York State championship celebration. “It’s the finalization [...]In the end, the game was not just about one steal or one play, but about the collective effort of the team to come together, execute their game plan, and emerge triumphant. Peyton and his teammates had proven that in basketball, as in any endeavor, success often comes down to how well you can work together, adapt to challenges, and make the most of every opportunity that comes your way.
Human Rights Day is observed annually on December 10th around the world. It marks the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), one of the most groundbreaking global pledges in history. This landmark document enshrines the inalienable rights to which every person is entitled, regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth, or other status. “The Universal Declaration shows the way to common values and approaches that can help resolve tensions and create the security and stability our world craves,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Human rights empower individuals and communities to build a better tomorrow. By embracing the full power of human rights as the path to the world we desire, we can become more peaceful, equal, and sustainable. This year’s theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now”, is a call to recognize the importance and relevance of human rights in our daily lives. In Myanmar, the constitutional framework — specifically Sections 347, 348, and 349 — serves as a bulwark in safeguarding the fundamental rights of its citizens. This commitment ensures that all Myanmar citizens not only have the right to enjoy fundamental freedoms but are also bound by the responsibility not to infringe upon the rights of others, regardless of the circumstances. The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, in line with its mandate, is actively promoting and protecting human rights. As part of this effort, it has translated the Universal Declaration of Human Rights into Myanmar and 21 indigenous languages. The Declaration has also been printed as posters and made into animated films for distribution. These initiatives aim to raise awareness and understanding of human rights among indigenous communities. The National Human Rights Commission Law was enacted by the Union Parliament on 28 March 2014, as Law No 21. Subsequently, the MNHRC was established in accordance with this law, marking the first such commission in Myanmar’s history. Although the commission was initially established on 5 September 2011, through Notification 34/2011, it was restructured under the law on 24 September 2014. In line with the objectives set forth in the Commission Law, efforts to establish a human rights organization that upholds and protects human rights are being carried out. These efforts include safeguarding human rights, investigating violations, and implementing relevant recommendations. Furthermore, the Commission conducts inspections and audits of prisons, detention centres, lock-ups, and holding facilities. Based on its findings, the Commission submits pertinent recommendations to the appropriate government departments.Johor government will set up an integrated complaints centre to ensure all public grouses are addressed and resolved efficiently. Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said RM1.5mil from next year’s state budget had been allocated to establish the Johor Integrated Complaints Centre (JICC) in phases. “I receive complaints from the rakyat through my social media channels every day on issues such as potholes, faulty streetlights, dilapidated healthcare facilities and poorly maintained drains. “The rakyat says that their complaints have gone unaddressed by the relevant authorities. “Many also request that I personally conduct spot checks to look into the issues. “The state government decided to form JICC to ensure each complaint received is channelled to and addressed by the relevant authorities efficiently, before providing the complainant with an update,” he said when tabling Johor Budget 2025 in Kota Iskandar. He said the initiative would allow the public to channel their complaints to the government in real time and that the centre would be monitored by the Mentri Besar’s office. Separately, Onn Hafiz noted the issue of affordable housing was one often raised by Johoreans, with many complaining that the state did not have sufficient affordable homes, “From 2022 until November this year, 13,461 affordable housing units have been built. “The state government has lined up plans to hit its target of providing 30,000 affordable housing units by 2026,” he said. This includes building 689 units of Residensi Bangsa Johor, 60 units of Rumah Transit Bangsa Johor, 328 units of Rumah Kasih Johor and 112 units of Rumah Prihatin Johor, all of which fall under the affordable housing scheme. Besides that, Onn Hafiz said 8,021 Johor Affordable Housing units were expected to be built statewide next year through collaborations between the state government and private developers. The state has also allocated RM12mil for the Chinese and Indian communities. Onn Hafiz said the funds would be channelled through Sultanah Fatimah Foundation, Sultanah Rogayah Foundation and various non-governmental organisations to help the needy. “This includes RM3mil in school assistance to benefit 6,000 underprivileged Chinese and Indian students and RM1mil to Southern University College to help 500 students,” he said.
