Notre Dame becomes a hub for diplomacy
For 14 years the Tories sent the country hurtling backwards as they fought amongst themselves instead of tackling the problems facing voters. In too many areas, Tory chaos left Britain falling further behind. As families struggled to make ends meet, hospital waiting lists soared and town centres were hit by lawlessness, the last government hopelessly careered from crisis to crisis. Keir Starmer this week will unveil his Plan for Change as he delivers on his pledge to tackle the country's long term problems. Ahead of the election, he promised to focus relentlessly on our five national missions to grow the economy, build an NHS fit for the future, take back our streets, break down the barriers to opportunity and make Britain a clean energy superpower. Now, in the next phase of the Labour Government's work, he will announce ambitious milestones for each of the missions detailing what we will achieve over the next five years. Labour's Plan for Change will give the country the certainty of a clear direction. And by setting the goals now it will allow the British people to track our progress and hold us to account. These milestones will be built on the foundations of a stable economy, national security and secure borders. Since coming to power in July, we have acted with urgency to change Britain. We are already delivering key pledges from our manifesto. Tough decisions in the Budget stabilised the economy, filling the Conservatives’ £22 billion black hole in the public finances. We have set up Border Security Command to smash the gangs and tackle small boat crossings. We have already returned 9,400 people with no right to be here. We have switched on Great British Energy and we are recruiting 6,500 new teachers paid for by ending tax breaks for private schools. But with these milestones we will go even further. The Plan for Change will show the path ahead as we fix the country. It won’t be easy but worthwhile change seldom comes easy. How to watch Penn State vs. SMU: CFP first round TV channel, streaming infoNonePolice in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram area have arrested a man for allegedly posting fake news on social media about Union Home Minister Amit Shah's ''demise'', officials said on Wednesday. Lavrov issued the call while speaking to reporters on Saturday night following a meeting with his Iranian and Turkish counterparts under the Astana framework on Syria, according to IRNA citing Russia’s Tass news agency. We have clearly reaffirmed our commitment to UNSC Resolution 2254, first of all in the context of preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Syria, and with regard to the need to establish political dialogue, he said, referring to his meeting in the Qatari capital, Doha. Lavrov explained: "Of course, all these requests will be possible only if the current advance of opposition forces, including Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, and their seizure of territories is put to an end." "It is unacceptable to allow a terrorist group to take control of territories in violation of existing agreements, starting with UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which strongly affirms the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of Syria," Lavrov said earlier on Saturday while speaking at the Doha Forum. The foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Russia held a trilateral meeting in Doha on Saturday within the framework of the Astana process, focusing on recent developments in Syria as had announced by top Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi. Prior to attending the Doha Forum, Araghchi had traveled to Damascus where, in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, emphasized Iran’s full support for the government, people and army of the country. He later went to Ankara and held discussion his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan developments in the region, especially the situation in Syria. We have information that shows that terrorist groups in Syria have close ties and coordination with the United States and the Zionist regime, Araghchi said at a joint presser with Fidan in Ankara last week. 4399

Bhubaneswar, Dec 21 (PTI) The Odisha government has decided to use satellite telemetry and underwater videography to study the movement of Olive Ridley turtles to ascertain the reason behind the variation in the number of the turtles coming to the coast to lay eggs every year, an official statement said on Saturday. The decision was taken at a meeting of a high-powered committee on turtles chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja on Friday. The meeting analysed the number of turtles reaching the Odisha coast to lay eggs in the last 10 years. According to available statistics, 11.49 lakh Olive Ridley Turtles laid eggs at Gahirmatha coast in Kendrapara district and Rushikulya beach in Ganjam district in 2022-23, there was no mass nesting in 2023-24 and only 3 lakh laid eggs in various coasts. The Olive Ridley Turtles generally congregate at Gahirmatha Wildlife Sanctuary, Bhitarkanika Sanctuary, Devi river-mouth, Balukhand Wildlife Sanctuary, Rushikulya Wildlife Sanctuary and the river banks in lakhs every year to lay their eggs. "The meeting discussed the variation of laying of eggs by turtles and could not reach any conclusion over the exact reason behind the fluctuating number of turtles turning up at the Odisha coast to lay eggs. It is a mystery for the researchers," it said. In view of this, the committee decided to initiate steps to monitor the movement of sea turtles through a satellite telemetry study. A three-year study using modern techniques will be initiated by the Wildlife Conservation Society of India (WCI) to assess the population dynamics of the Olive Ridley Turtles along the Odisha coast, including their migration patterns, the statement said. The meeting also discussed the importance of underwater videography during the nesting season of Olive Ridley turtles. The chief secretary directed the officials concerned to monitor the movement of sea turtles using modern technology, create awareness in the areas concerned during the nesting season and strengthen the enforcement system. "It is our responsibility and duty to protect sea turtles and their eggs. Like the previous years, this year too, the state government is providing all necessary support in this direction and it will continue," the chief secretary said. Get all the latest football news, highlights and analysis delivered straight to your inbox with Fox Sports Sportmail. Sign up now!!! Portsmouth claim Yengi suffered the injury while on international duty with Australia over the last fortnight. “He picked up an injury during the game when Australia played Bahrain,” Portsmouth manager John Mousinho said prior to his sides latest outing. It’s unclear at this stage how bad the injury is or how long Yengi will be sidelined for. The revelation comes as a slight shock given the 25-year-old played the entirety of the contest in Riffa and scored both goals, as it finished 2-2. Mousinho said Yengi picked up the injury “just before half-time.” “His knee was slightly swollen,” Mousinho added. “He was scanned on Friday afternoon. So, we’re just awaiting the final scan results and for him to see a specialist. “With knees, ankles and hips we’re always really wary.” It has been a stop-start season for the forward. He missed Pompey’s first two matches of the Championship campaign with a groin injury before being sidelined just two games into his comeback for a further five fixtures with the same complaint. Yengi had just come off a run of six games in four weeks prior to linking up with the Socceroos in Melbourne. He came on as a late substitute in a scoreless draw with Saudi Arabia in the Victorian capital before the side flew out to Bahrain. “Any injury is frustrating for us,” Mousinho said. “People do pick up injuries on international breaks. It’s probably one of the reasons why certain players don’t necessarily want to go on international duty. “We’re not one of those clubs. I want players to go away and play and represent their countries and I think it’s a really proud moment for anybody connected with Portsmouth when they do that. “It does come with a slight risk and unfortunately (Kusini) has ended up picking up an injury.” Any absence isn’t of immediate concern for the Socceroos. Tony Popovic’s side isn’t back in action until they face Indonesia and China in two must-win World Cup qualifiers in March. While Yengi has made a bright start to life for the national team, scoring six goals in 11 games, the interrupted nature of his season has impacted his output for Portsmouth. He’s yet to find the back of the net in the Championship after scoring 13-goals in 31 appearances in all competitions last season, while they were in League One, following a move from the Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League.
